Bank manager and customer embezzles more than 12m TL from bank and customers
The manager of Güzelyurt Universal Bank has been detained on allegation of embezzling millions of TL from the bank.
The suspect named only as FC, a Turkish Cypriot, the manager of Güzelyurt Universal Bank and one ÖD, a bank customer were arrested and taken to court last week Friday on the charge of embezzling millions of TL.
A police officer from the the Financial Branch conducting the investigation on the matter, said that the suspects were arrested for the crimes of “obtaining money by fraud, issuing a fake bank payment order, cheating on accounts and fraud by an employee.”
Police stated that the suspect FC, who worked as an employee at a bank operating in Güzelyurt between 2021-2024, enabled ÖD to obtain 6,298,366 TL by fraudulently obtaining money from the bank’s main safe by issuing a fake bank payment order and transferring it to Derya’s account in order to ensure the payment of ÖD’s checks.
The suspect FC, with the encouragement of ÖD, again in order to cover the deficit in the bank's safe, took a total of 1,244,411 TL, 23,805 Euros, 67,793 pounds, and 11,526 dollars in cash from bank customers to deposit into their accounts and swindled them by not depositing them into the customer accounts.
Police stated that statements were taken from 15 people, 5 of whom were customers, and that FC stated in his voluntary statement that he committed the crime in question with the encouragement of ÖD.
Police said ÖD did not accept the accusations made against her, and that there were statements to be taken and that the investigation into the matter had just begun.
The police stated that there was a possibility that the suspects could influence the investigation and requested a 3-day detention from the court.
The suspects' lawyers did not object to the request.
On Sunday, all suspects were released on bail without detention, provided they report to the nearest police station once a week.
