15 people arrested for allegedly stealing 2,500 heads of garlic from a field in Güzelyurt

Fifteen Bangladeshi working in a farm in Güzelyurt were rounded up and arrested for allegedly stealing 2,500 heads of garlic from a field.

The 15 Bangladeshi suspects were brought before a court in Güzelyurt on Sunday on charges of “Product Theft and Property Violation”.

Police told the court that an investigation was launched upon a complaint made regarding the theft of 2,500 heads of garlic in a pile in a field belonging to resident İ.B. in Gayretköy between July 1 and 8.

The police stated that in the investigation carried out on July 13, 2024, the suspects identified in the matter, AI, MHH, MI, RI, TM, OM, NR, AH, MA, RM, JH, MM, MB, TM and MM who were staying in Bostancı, were arrested in light of the pending warrant obtained from the court.

The police subsequently said that the suspects, who were under the responsibility of their employer H.T., were arrested in the light of a search warrant obtained from the court at the workers' houses in Bostancı, and that 28 kg of garlic was detected and seized as evidence during the search. 

Police stated that the investigation into the matter was ongoing, that the statements made by the suspects needed to be confirmed and refuted, and that the suspects would be questioned about immigration, and requested that they be detained at the police station for 3 days for investigation purposes.
