Woman tried to strangle son due to his health issues in North Cyprus

A 41-year old Turkish Cypriot woman caused panic in Lefkosia, north Cyprus on Sunday when she tried to strangle her 9-year-old son to death on the grounds that he was "psychologically damaged" 

The incident took place at around 3:00pm on Sunday June 9 in Lefkosia Marmara region.

According to report, the woman identified only as NY, 41 strangle her 9-year-old child by wrapping a robe sash around his neck and squeezing it on the grounds that he was psychologically disturbed.

She was arrested following the incident and the child was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.

Police said the child was taken to Lefkosia state hospital and kept under observation.

The police investigation into the incident continues. 

Social Services Department Director Alev Ecevit noted that the child was kept under observation at the intensive care and was still unconscious. It was learned that the child's health condition remained serious.
