Two students caught with over 60 grams of drugs in north Cyprus

Two students who were arrested during a drug operation carried out by the police in Lefkosia were caught with over 60 grams of drugs.

The suspects, PTK, a Zimbabwean and CMP, a Cameroonian were identified and arrested by Turkish Cypriot police during the drug operation carried out in Küçük Kaymak District of Lefkosia at around 12:30pm on June 4.

Police said they were found with 14 grams of marijuana type drugs weighing 68 grams in total in 20 packages ready for sale and 54 grams in the bedroom of the house.

They were taken to the Lefkosia district court on Friday on charges of "taking, giving and possessing illegal drugs".

Police said they found jute weighing approximately 2 grams in the possession of the suspect PTK, who was detected suspiciously in a vehicle. The drugs were found and taken as evidence.

During investigation conducted against the suspect, it was determined that he bought the drug in question from CMP, a resident of an apartment building on Küçük Kaymaklı, İsmail Beyoğlu Street.

During the search of CMP's house, 14 grams of marijuana-type drugs, weighing 68 grams in total, were found in 20 packages, 14 grams ready for sale, and 54 grams in the bedroom of the house.

CMP who was questioned, said that she bought 84 grams of the drug for 4,500 Nigerian Naira from a person he contacted via WhatsApp on June 3, and that she gave 9 packages to other people for 100 euros per package.

Noting that the investigation was completed, police stated that the suspect PTK was a student and requested that he be placed on an appropriate guarantee. The police officer stated that CMP was living illegally in the country and was caught with a large amount of drugs, and requested that he be detained until trial.

The judge released PTK on bail on the condition that he is banned from going abroad until his trial,  pay a cash guarantee of 40,000TL and report to the nearest police station once a week.

The judge decided to send the suspect CMP to prison for a period not exceeding 2 months until trial.
