Turkish Cypriot arrested for meat smuggling said he found them on the road and carried them
A Turkish Cypriot man who was arrested for snuggling over 600 kilos of meat in Akıncılar, claimed that he found the meat 'on the side of the road'.
The suspect, OŞ was arrested by a team of police on the Famagusta-Lefkosia main road Tuesday June 18 after they noticed a suspicious movement. They found 640 kilos of various kind of meats in the cabin of the vehicle which he were illegally imported from Southern Cyprus.
He was arrested and taken to court on Wednesday on charges of meat smuggled.
Police the suspect stated that he found the meat in question on the roadside in the Akıncılar region and took them.
Police also noted that they found a total of 10 kilos of meat in the suspect's freezer during a court-ordered search of his residence, and as an explanation regarding the meat in question, he stated that he had found it at his door the previous day.
The meat found was examined by the Veterinary Department teams and reported that it had no seal and was therefore unhealthy.
Police stated that the statements made by the suspect would be confirmed and denied, and that there were also statements that needed to be taken, and requested that the suspect be detained in the police for 2 days in the first place so that the investigation could be carried out safely.
