TRNC Parliamentary committee approves Foreigners and Immigration (amnesty) Bill; Over to the general assembly for approval
The TRNC Parliamentary committee on Law, Political Affairs and Foreign Relations has approved the Foreigners and Immigration (Amendment) Bill on its agenda and referred it to the agenda of the General Assembly.
The parliamentary committee was convened at around 10:30am on Monday under the chairmanship of UBP deputy Yasemi Öztürk to discuss the bill.
According to a statement made by the Parliament, the committee approved the "Foreigners and Immigration (Amendment) Bill" on its agenda with a majority vote and sent it to the agenda of the General Assembly.
Minister of Internal Affairs Dursun Oğuz and Minister of Labor and Social Security Sadık Gardiyanoğlu were also present at the committee meeting.
Officials from the Prime Ministry, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the Ministry of National Education and the General Directorate of Police attended the meeting as guests and presented their opinions on the subject.
NOTE: For the purpose of clarity and to avoid misinformation, amnesty has not started yet or been approved. At the moment, the amnesty bill has now been approved by the parliamentary committee tasked with reviewing the bill. The bill will now be presented to the general assembly for discussion and approval after which the president will have to sign it for it to become a law and active. If the process proceeds uninterrupted before the assembly go on summer break in July, its possible that amnesty will start in July otherwise, the process of its approval will resume in September when the parliamentarians returns from the summer break.
