Three foreigners sent to prison for living in north Cyprus without a resident permit

Three men who were identified and arrested for living in north Cyprus without a resident permit were sent to prison for a period of 20 days until trial. 

The individuals, SN, MOM who are both from Pakistan and DBD, a Nigerian were identified and arrested during checks carried out by Turkish Cypriot police in Lefkosia.

They were brought to the Lefkosia district court on Wednesday.

Police told the court that immigration checks carried out on SN and MOM who were arrested at around 1:30pm on June 22, 2024 revealed that they had been residing in the TRNC without permit for 73 days since January 31, 2024.

Police said DBD who was arrested on Rauf Denktaş Street in Lefkosia at 3.30pm on June 22, 2024 was determined to had been residing in the TRNC without permit for 1120 days since May 29, 2022. 

The police noted that the investigation has been completed and that if the suspects are released, they will continue to commit the crime of Residing in TRNC without Permit and requested that they be detained in the Central Prison until their cases are discussed.

The judge who evaluated the matter in court, ordered the suspects to be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days.
