Student whose residence was search for free duty goods arrested for illegal residency
A Zimbabwean student who was arrested for living in north Cyprus without a resident permit has been sent to prison for 15 days.
The student, named only as CI was identified and arrested at around 11:40am on Tuesday June 25 during a search carried out at her residence for Duty-Free Goods''.
She was taken to the Lefkossia district court on Wednesday.
Police told the court that CI, was arrested by a team of police officer who carried out a search in her residence in Gönyeli after receiving a notice that she keeps "Duty-Free Goods".
An immigration procedure carried out on her revealed that she was living illegally in the country.
Police stated that while no duty-free goods were found during the search, it was determined that she had been staying in the TRNC without a residence permit for a total of 270 days since September 30, 2023.
Police stated that the investigation was completed and requested that the suspect be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 15 days.
