Student assaults ex girlfriend for being with other men

A student who physically assaulted his ex girlfriend for being friends with other men in her residence has been arrested by Turkish Cypriot police more that two weeks after the assault.

The suspect identified only as MN, a Syrian national was arrested on Monday for assaulting his ex girlfriend. The incident happened in Gönyeli on June 3, 2024.

The suspect was taken to court on Monday June 24 charged with physical assault.

Police told the court that the suspect beat his ex-girlfriend on the grounds that she was friends with others. Police said the suspect pulled his girlfriend, whom he had slapped, by her arms and dragged her on the ground.

Upon a complaint, an arrest warrant was obtained for the suspect on the same day.

The police went to the suspect's house 3-4 times, but could not be found.

Police said the suspect surrendered to the police on Sunday June 23.

The complainant was examined by a doctor, and no assault report was received because no findings were found.

Noting that the suspect admitted the crime of assault in his statement, the police stated that he was in the country with student status and requested that he be released on bail.

Speaking in court, the suspect said that he saw his ex-girlfriend with other men.

The judge released the suspect on bail on the condition that he pays a cash guarantee of 12,000 TL, bring a reliable guarantor who is a TRNC citizen to sign a surety bond worth 500,000 TL, and report to the nearest police station once a week. .
