Student arrested for living in north Cyprus without a resident permit begs to be sent back to her country

A student who was arrested for living in north Cyprus without a resident permit, broke down in court begging to be sent back to her country.

The individual, FEE, 28 was identified and arrested during a checks carried out by police in Lefkosia at around 10:30pm on Tuesday June 11.

She was taken to the Lefkosia district Court on Wednesday.

Police told the court that it was determined that the suspect, had been in the TRNC without a residence permit for a total of 560 days since November 29, 2022.

Police stated that a statement was obtained about the suspect as a result of the investigation carried out by the Lefkosia Police Department Immigration Department. 

Noting that the investigation was completed and that the suspect would continue to commit her crime if she was released, the police requested that he be detained in the Central Prison until her cases were discussed.

The suspect broke down in tears, saying she wanted to go to her country.

The ordered that the suspect be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days.
