School teacher accused of sexually harassing two teenage girls

A 34-year-old man who teaches in a secondary school in Lefkosia, north Cyprus was arrested by the police for harassing two teenage girls.

The suspect, MY, 34, a Turkish Cypriot man who works as a teacher at a secondary school in Lefkosia was arrested on Monday June 3 on allegation of "harassing two students aged 15 and 16". 

He was taken to the Lefkosia district court on Tuesday on charges of "Sexual Harassment" and "Violation of the Electronic Communications Law".

Police told the court that in the examination of the suspect's phone, sexual communication between him and one of his victim, BB, 15 who is his former student was found.

Police said that it was determined that the suspect did not prevent the victim from turning to sexuality in his conversation with his student.  

The police also noted that the suspect also mentioned sexual words in the messages he exchanged with a 16-year-old student he was giving private lessons to.

Stating that the suspect did not have any physical contact or physical harassment with the students, the police stated that he admitted his crime in two voluntary statements.

The police stated that the investigation was completed and the suspect would be suspended by the Public Service Commission and requested a guarantee.

The suspect's lawyer argued that his client's statement was not taken voluntarily, but under psychological pressure and at a time when he was very tired.

Evaluating the testimony in court, the judge released the suspect on bail on the condition that he deposit a cash guarantee of 200,000 TL, get a personal guarantee of 2 million TL, and two TRNC citizens sign a surety of 1 million TL each, and also report to the nearest police station 2 days a week.
