North Cyprus increases penalty for drunk driving to minimum wage

The government of northern Cyprus has announced an increase in the minimum wage rate for traffic fines. 

Fixed fines to be imposed on drivers for traffic crimes that can be resolved without a lawsuit have been increased by the new minimum wage.

The new increment came into force on Wednesday June 5. 

Driving without a driving license will now attract a minimum wage, i.e. 33,926 TL, which is equivalent to a minimum wage, while the penalty for speeding was increased up to 8,481.50 TL, depending on the kilometers exceeded. There was no change in point penalties.

While drunk driving is punishable up to one minimum wage depending on the alcohol level, the penalty for driving without a drivers license or inspection and using a mobile phone while driving is 3,392.60 TL.

PENALTIES
Fines for traffic crimes that are indexed to the minimum wage and can be resolved without a lawsuit have been increased by determining the second minimum wage of the year as 33,926 TL monthly gross.

According to this; Exceeding the speed limit by up to 20 km is 3,392.60 TL, exceeding the speed limit by more than 20 km is 5,88.90 TL, exceeding the speed limit by more than 40 km is 8,481.50 TL.

While the penalty for driving or attempting to drive under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication is 16,963 TL, if the alcohol level in the driver's breath, blood or urine is between 50 mlg and 100 mlg, the penalty for driving or driving on any road or anywhere is prohibited. The fine for attempted crime increased to 16,963 TL, and if the alcohol content exceeded 100 mlg, it increased to 33,926 TL.

USE OF A VEHICLE WITHOUT A DRIVING LICENSE OR INSPECTION 3, 392.60 TL
While the penalty for driving without a driving license and without permission from the owner is 33,926 TL, the penalty for not carrying a driving license is 1696.30 TL, and the penalty for driving without a navigation license or inspection is 3,392.60 TL.

NOT HAVING A FIRST AID KIT 1,696.30 TL
Carrying more than the tonnage or dangerous load is 8,481.50 TL, emitting smoke and poisonous gas from the exhaust is 3,392.60 TL, not using seat belts in cars, buses, pickup trucks and truck class vehicles is 3,392.60 TL, third party without insurance or insurance The penalty for driving a motor vehicle outside the scope of the law increased to 8,481.50 TL, and the penalty for not having a first aid kit in motor vehicles increased to 1,696.30 TL.

USING A MOBILE PHONE WHILE DRIVING 3,392.60 TL
While the penalty for drivers using mobile phones or cordless phones while driving, eating and drinking, reading something, placing objects that obstruct their vision in the front, side or back of the vehicles they drive and not complying with traffic signs and signs while driving is 3,392.60 TL, the fine for complying with traffic lights is 3,392.60 TL. The penalty for not doing so was determined as 6,785.20 TL.

The penalty for not having a taximeter in a taxi was 11,874.10 TL, and the penalty for fraudulently operating the taximeter while carrying passengers was 16,963 TL.

POINT PENALTY
Some of the point penalties applied along with fines are as follows:

“Exceeding the speed limit by 20 kilometers is 5 points; Overcoming more than 20 kilometers 25 points; Overcoming more than 40 kilometers 50 points; driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication 100 points; driving without permission from the owner 100 points; 100 points for driving without a driving license and allowing driving without a driving license; refusing to go to the nearest police station where the necessary technical equipment is available or to provide an adequate breath sample, without reasonable cause, 100 points; driving without insurance or coverage 20 points; Failure to obey traffic lights is 30 points.”
