Man threatens woman with a knife for going out whit his girlfriend

A man who threatened a 22-year-old individual with a knife in Lefkosia. north Cyprus has been detained for two days.

The incident happened at around 12:40am on Wednesday June 26 in the stairwell of an apartment building located in Lefkosia when the suspect named only as MYD threatened his girlfriend's friend named as Ş.Ş with a knife. He accused him for going for a walk with his girlfriend.

The suspect was arrested and taken to court on the same day on charges of "threat of violence", "carrying a weapon to intimidate", "illegal carrying of a knife", "possession of a weapon while drunk" and "intoxication".

Police said suspect was found in the stairwell of an apartment building holding a knife to the victim's throat following an argument with the woman because she was constantly going out for a walk with his girlfriend.

Police said the suspect threatened one Ş.Ş. with violence by putting a bread knife to his throat and saying, "If you take this girl out again, I will kill you." 

The police noted that no evidence of the knife could be found in the search conducted around the scene and that the suspect's alcohol level was found to be 100 per mille. 

Police stated that the investigation was ongoing, that the knife was being sought and that if the suspect were released, they could interfere with the evidence sought and the statements to be taken, and requested that he be detained for 2 days.
