Iranian student detained after police finds drug in vehicle

An Iranian woman who was found to have drugs in her car in Lefkosia, north Cyprus was detained for 3 days on court order pending trial.

The suspect, SH, 25-year-old Iranian student was arrested by the police after she was stopped for dangerous driving in Lefkosia at around 5:00pm on Thursday May 30.

Police said a substance thought to be one gram of jute in a metal grinder was found in her vehicle.

She was taken to the Lefkosia district court on Friday.

Police told the court that she was stopped for dangerous driving and during the search carried out on the suspect's vehicle, a substance thought to be jute was seized in a metal grinder was found.

Police stated that the seized substance would be sent for analysis and the grinder would be sent to the fingerprint examination branch. 

Police said it would be investigated where and from whom the suspect obtained the drugs and that there were analysis and fingerprint examination results to be awaited, and requested that she be held detention for 3 days.
