Four Sudanese arrested for drugs in north Cyprus: I drink to clear my lungs
Four Sudanese nationals were arrested by Turkish Cypriot police on Tuesday after drugs were found on them during traffic inspections in Kyrenia.
The suspects, AM, MA, EE and AA, who are Sudanese nationals were stopped for traffic inspection at around 1:45am on Tuesday June 18 on Uğur Mumcu Boulevard in Kyrenia when they were found with drugs.
They were arrested and taken to the Kyrenia court on Wednesday.
Police told the court that they were stopped for inspection due to suspicion of the movements of the driver AM. During the search, one gram of jute-type narcotic was found in the driver's possession and taken as evidence.
The other suspects who were passengers in the vehicle were also arrested.
Police said a search would be carried out at the residences of the suspects in Lefkosia and that the seized substance would be sent for analysis and requested that they be detained for 3 days for the purpose of investigation.
Speaking after the police, the suspect AM said, "The amount is very small anyway, I drink it to clear my lungs."
