Four detained for 20 days for living in north Cyprus without resident permits
Four students who were identified and arrested for residing in north Cyprus without a resident permit were sent to prison for 20 days until trial.
The individuals, CCA, EI, who are both Nigerians, BBT and ETT who are both Cameroonians were identified and arrested by by a team of Crime Prevention police in Gönyeli Atatürk Street at around 7.30pm on Sunday June 9, 2024.
During immigration check carried out on them, it was determined that CCA has been residing illegally in the country for 888 days since January 3, 2022, EI has been living illegally in north Cyprus for 253 days since September 30, 2023, BBT for 618 days since October 1, 2022, and ETT for 1,845 days since 22 May 2019.
Police stated that statements were obtained from all suspects as a result of the investigation carried out by the Lefkosia Police Department's immigration department.
Police noted that the investigation was completed and that the suspects would continue to commit the crime of "residence without permit" if they were released, and requested that they be detained in the Central Prison until their cases were discussed.
The judge ordered the suspects to be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days.
