Foreign national detained in north Cyprus for harassing two teenagers

A man who allegedly harassed two 11-year-old girls playing in a playground near an apartment building in Boğazköy, will be detained for 3 days.

The incident took place on Monday June 17, around 7:00pm, in front of an apartment building in Boğazköy, north Cyprus.

The suspect AR, was arrested on Monday and taken to court on Wednesday on charges of "sexual abuse of a child" and "sexual harassment". 

Police told the court that the suspect, who was a resident of Dikmen, went to two 11-year-old girls playing in the playground near the apartment building, took 200 TL from his pocket, said he would give them the money and asked for their names.

The suspect then kissed one of the children on the forehead and cheek, and hugged the other child around the waist and followed the children to their homes.

The suspect was identified and arrested on the same day following a complaint

Police said they could not conduct immigration research due to the public holiday and noted that there were camera footage to be examined and statements to be provided and requested that the suspect be detained for 3 days for investigation purposes.
