Fake police officer fraudulently obtains Pounds and Dollars from an exchange office in Lefkosia
A Turkish Cypriot man who posed as a police officer has been arrested for deceiving and defrauding employees of two different exchange offices and receiving a thousand dollars and a thousand pounds.
The suspect named only as EK, was arrested on Monday June 24 in Lefkosia and taken to the Lefkosia district court on Tuesday on charges of "obtaining money by fraud" and "representing himself as a police officer when he was not a police officer" .
Explaining the findings in court, police noted that the suspect at around 5.40pm on Monday, went in front of an exchange office operating in Gönyeli and introduced himself as a police officer, even though he was not a police officer. He then obtained money fraudulently by taking a thousand US dollars from one EA who was working there.
The suspect also went to another foreign exchange office operating in Gönyeli, around 6:00pm on the same day and asked for one thousand pounds in cash from Ö.N., who worked as a cashier there and said that he would bring the equivalent money from the car, but took the money and left the place.
Police said that the suspect was identified and arrested in Kyrenia on the same day, and that a thousand dollars and 930 pounds were found during the search carried out on him.
Noting that there were camera footage to be examined and statements to be taken, the police ordered the suspect to be detained for 3 days.
