Essential tips to prevent vehicle fires this summer

As the temperatures rise, so do the incidences of vehicle fires. Highlighting this crucial issue, the head of the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers, Ayer Yarkıner, stated that vehicle fires are preventable and issued several important warnings.

Yarkıner emphasised that most vehicle fires are caused by fuel or electrical leaks. He noted that poor maintenance and excessive wear can also contribute to these fires. “Vehicle fires often result from negligence and inadequate maintenance. Therefore, regular inspections should be conducted, and any detected faults should be promptly repaired”, he said.

He also explained that the increase in fires during the summer months is due to higher temperatures. “Fuel or electrical leaks can cause fires in both winter and summer“, Yarkıner said. “However, the rapid temperature rise in summer increases the risk of fire“.

Additionally, Yarkıner pointed out that fires can occur even without an electrical leak. “If fuel leaks onto the exhaust, it can evaporate and ignite. In such cases, the vehicle should be repaired immediately“, he advised.

Yarkıner also offered advice to vehicle owners, recommending that fire extinguishers be kept in vehicles. “A fire extinguisher is essential for a first response in case of a fire. Working with skilled mechanics and ensuring regular maintenance can greatly reduce the risk of fire“, he concluded.

He stressed that vehicle owners should be particularly vigilant during the summer months and emphasised the importance of regular maintenance for safe and trouble-free driving.

With every report on Police Traffic checks, there are always a certain number of vehicles banned from the road, presumably because they are unsafe.
