Eight people arrested for living in north Cyprus with out a resident permit
Eight people who were found living in north Cyprus with out a resident permit were arrested and sent to prison on court order on Thursday.
The 8 individuals, AH, SM, PJ, JH, MJ, SH, SA and SA were arrested at around 2:30pm on Wednesday June 19 during police operation carried out in two separate houses on Atatürk Street in Gönyeli.
They were brought before a Lefkosia court on Thursday.
Police stated that during the immigration control carried out on the individuals, it was determined that AH had stayed in the north Cyprus without a residence permit for a total of 290 days since September 3, 2023, and SM for a total of 162 days since January 9, 2024.
It was determined that PJ had lived illegally in the country for 714 days, JH for 165 days, MJ for 292 days, SH for 278 days, SA for 333 days and S.A for 275 days.
Police said the suspects stated in their verbal statements that they worked in various places in the north of Cyprus, therefore an investigation was required.
One of the suspects, SH submitted a document stating that he had a work permit in the country, but during the investigation, they found that his permit was issued on August 16, 2023, but was canceled on August 31, 2023.
Police stated that this matter would be investigated and requested that all suspects be detained for one day for investigation purposes.
