61-year-old Greek Cypriot man dies in car collision in north Cyprus
A 61-year-old Greek Cypriot man died on Thursday in a car collision that took place Güzelyurt-Lefke main road.
The deceased was identified as Charalambos Anastasiou, 61, a Greek Cypriot man.
The unfortunate accident happened at around 2:50pm on Thursday June 27 at the Bostancı traffic lights on the Güzelyurt-Lefke main road.
According to report by Turkish Cypriot police, the accident happened when a car driven by Kenan Aşan, 40, who was driving towards Lefke carelessly drove past the traffic light at excessive speed despite the light showing red when it hit the car driven by Charalambos Anastasiou who was coming from the direction of Güzelyurt and and heading towards Bostancı.
Charalambos was rushed to the Lefkosia state hospital but doctors there were unable to save his life.
The two passengers in the other car involved in the collision were being treated for serious injuries.
The driver, aged 40, has been arrested by Turkish Cypriot police.
