Two Russians arrested at Ercan Airport for robbery while trying to exit north Cyprus
Two foreign nationals were arrested by the police on Saturday while trying to exit the TRNC after they were alleged to have held a man against his will and robbed him of thousands of US Dollars in Iskele.
The suspects, DE, 31 and AN, 37 both Russian nationals who are residents of Iskele at around 3:00pm on Saturday May 25 invited one AO, 37 a resident of Bedrettin Demirel Street in Kyrenia to their residence in Iskele to sell crypto for cash when they robbed him of his money and seriously assaulted him.
They were arrested and taken to a court in Iskele on Sunday.
Police told the court that the suspects severely beat the victim tied his hands, feet and mouth with duct tape, and stole the 16,000 US Dollars and 1,000 Turkish Liras cash he had in his possession.
Police told the court that the camera footage of the suspects were reviewed and the complainant recorded themselves with his phone camera.
Police told the court that in the further investigation, it was determined that the suspects went to Ercan Airport BY TAXI to board a plane to Antalya, Turkiye when they were arrested with an arrest warrant obtained.
Police stated that the arrested suspects had verbal statements and that these statements should be confirmed and denied, and requested that they be detained in police custody for 3 days in the first place.
