Two foreign nationals caught with gun in Lefkosia

Two foreign nationals were arrested and detained by Turkish Cypriot police after guns and bullets were found on them during an operation in Lefkosia.

The men, BE and NH, both from Turkmenistan were identified and arrested at around 1:00am on Sunday May 5 during an operation carried out by Crime Prevention Branch and Judicial Branch teams in the parking lot of a market in in Küçükkaymaklı Lefkosia.

A 9 mm gun and 4 9 mm live bullets in its magazine were detected in the vehicle used by the suspect BE.

They were brought to court on Sunday for illegally possession of fire arms and explosives.  

Police told the court that a Sig Sauer brand 9 weapon was found in the vehicle driven by BE. 4 mm gun and 4 9 mm live bullets were detected in its magazine and taken as evidence.

Police stated that BE and BH, who was at the scene, were arrested. 

Police said investigation has been launched against the suspects, the gun will be sent for ballistic examination, and that there are statements to be taken. 

The police stated that there is also camera footage to be examined and requested that the suspects be detained for 3 days.
