Student caught with drug in his vehicle detained for 75 days

A student who was arrested and taken to court after drugs were found in his vehicle has been sent to prison for 75 days until trial.

The detention order OO, 24 was announced by the Kyrenia court on Wednesday May 15.

According to report, the defendant, OO was identified and arrested at around 3:00pm on May 2 after a team of the Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Directorate found him suspicious while parked inside the bus terminal on Halim Hocaoğlu Street.

Drugs weighing 25.263 grams were found in a search carried out in his vehicle.

Police told the court that the defendant was guilty of "illegal drug taking, giving and possession" and being in the TRNC without a "residence permit".

Police said 800 TL, 50 pounds and 200 dollars were found in the compartment under the steering wheel of the vehicle. They were taken as evidence.

Police said nothing illegal was found during the search carried out by narcotics teams at his house in Ozanköy on the same day.

Stating that the suspect has been in the TRNC without a residence permit since November 29, 2023, police requested that he be send to prison for a period not exceeding 75 days until trial.
