Man assaults ex wife in Lefkosia
A man with previous record of domestic violence was again arrested and detained for assaulting his ex wife in Lefkosia, north Cyprus.
The suspect named only as EE was arrested on Thursday May 30 for allegedly beating a woman whom the police identified as his ex wife.
The suspect was taken to court on Friday.
Police told the court that the suspect was arrested at around 7:00pm on Thursday May 30, 2024, in a vehicle on the Tax Office road in Lefkosia following a verbal argument between him and his ex-wife known as CA, with whom he had separated from but lived together.
Police said he acted violently towards his ex-wife and sexually harassed her. The woman who was beaten was examined by a doctor.
Police stated that a report was received that CA had a rash on her right shoulder area and left cheek area.
Police said the suspect is a TRNC citizen and that he committed the crime of "threat of violence" against his ex-wife in 2018.
Police stated that the investigation was completed and requested that the suspect be placed on bail.
Evaluating the testimony before court, the judge released the suspect on bail on the condition that he is banned from leaving the country until his trial, provided a cash guarantee of 15,000 TL, bring a reliable guarantor, two TRNC citizen to sign a surety bond worth 500,000 TL each, and report to the nearest police station once a week.
