Five Turkish nationals gang rape 18 years old girl in Kyrenia

Five young men who allegedly raped an 18-year-old girl they met at an entertainment venue in Kyrenia, were arrested and detained on curt order.

The incident happened on April 13, 2024 in Kyrenia.

The suspects YA, İA, ŞK, ZK and BY who are all Turkish nationals were arrested on April 13 for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl named IF, whom they met at an entertainment venue in Kyrenia. Police said they took her to the house where they were staying and raped her one after the other.

They were initially taken to the Kyrenia court on charges of rape and detained for 4 and 11 days respectively. They were brought back to court again on Friday.

Police told the court that the suspects met IF and a girlfriend at an entertainment venue in Kyrenia on April 13, 2024. IF's girlfriend went to the house where the suspect İA was staying in Kyrenia. 

Police said the suspects told IF that the friend who was with İA had become ill and took the young girl to an apartment on Ömer Sami Coşar Street. She was taken to the bedroom by the suspect YA and pushed onto the bed. 

The police said 5 suspects entered the room one after another and raped IF, one by one. 

The young girl told the incident to 4 girls after the suspects YA and BY, who took her to his friends by car, left. 

Police stated that IF and her four girlfriends came to the police and filed a complaint. The police announced that the location of the apartment where the suspects resided was detected on the complainant's mobile phone, and that the suspects were arrested as they were about to return to Turkey with their suitcases packed and were about to leave for the airport.

The police said that the suspects' mobile phones were taken as evidence, videos related to the incident were detected during the investigation, and correspondence was subsequently made by PGM Data Review experts so that the necessary investigations could be carried out. 

Police stated that the crime scene investigator indicated that the sheets in the bedroom and 5 used filled condoms were to be sent to Turkey. 

Police stated that the suspect YA stated in his statement that IF was with 5 people with her own consent.

Police stated that the suspects were brought to court on April 14 and April 17 and were ordered to be detained for a total of 11 days. 

The police said that during this period, the suspects and the young girl were ensured to undergo the necessary examination at Barış Mental and Nerve Hospital, and after the report, reports were obtained that all the suspects were fully criminally responsible for the crime. 

The police stated that 18 statements were taken, and that the KGYS images of 3 vehicles and the statements of the vehicle drivers were obtained regarding the departure of both the suspects and the complainant to the residence in question on the night of the incident.

The police announced that the blood samples taken from the young girl and the suspects were sent to the State Laboratory for the detection of alcohol and drugs, but the results have not been provided yet. 

In the examination made by PGM Data Review experts on the mobile phones of both the complainant and the suspects on April 25, 2024, the police found that the complainant asked for help from 2 people on the night of the incident and that there were videos on the mobile phones of YA, İA and ŞK, and messages written by YA and ZK on their phones had been detected. 

The police stated that the investigation was continuing, that there were expected analysis results, and that cell phone examinations were continuing, and requested an additional period of 7 days.
