Drunk driver crashes car in Lefkosia: No injuries

A 26-year old driver was happy to escape unhurt after he was involved in a traffic accident that occurred on the Lefkosia bypass early Thursday morning. 

The incident happened at around 6:30am on the Lefkosia bypass on Thursday May 23.

According to police report, the driver of the vehicle named only as AI, a Nigerian was driving on the Lefkosia bypass when he lost control of his vehicle, crossed the concrete barrier, and stopped only after hitting a dirt embankment. 

There were no injuries in the accident, but the driver was arrested.

Police said the driver was driving a vehicle under the influence of 182 milligrams of alcohol, heading westward. Upon reaching the Hamitköy roundabout, he lost control of the steering and hit the curb stones and the traffic sign at the roundabout. 

Due to the impact, the vehicle was thrown to the left side of the road, hitting a concrete wall on the roadside and coming to a halt on the embankment. 

While there were no injuries in the accident, the intoxicated driver was arrested. 

The police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
