Dog sniffs out drugs from a passenger's suitcase at Ercan airport

A dog at Ercan airport, north Cyprus helped detect a man who entered the country with drugs.

The suspect named only as CK, had arrived north Cyprus via Ercan airport at around 5:30pm on Monday, May, 3 when he was arrested by a police team from the Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Directorate in the arrivals hall of Ercan Airport after a narcotics dog reacted against him.

He was arrested and taken to court.

During the search conducted after the dog reacted to the suitcase he was carrying, a cigarette pack in the possession of the suspect was found to contain 1 rolled cigarette, believed to be a drug mixed with tobacco, a substance believed to be a Cannabis type drug in resin form weighing approximately 1 gram, and approximately 1 gram wrapped in transparent nylon. 

Police said a substance believed to be a cocaine-type drug was found and seized as evidence.

The police stated that the suspect gave a statement regarding the issue, that his statement would be confirmed and denied, and that the substances taken as evidence were sent for analysis, but the results were not available, and requested that he be detained for 3 more days for investigation purposes.
