Two arrested for illegal residency in north Cyprus after police received a tip off
Two people were arrested for living illegally in north Cyprus after police got a phone tip off about one of them.
One of the individuals suspected of not having a residence permit was found in a gym operating in Lefkosia at around 10:40pm on Thursday, April, 25.
Police arrived at the scene and found that HA, an Indian national who was found to have been living in the country without a residence permit for 148 days.
HA along with the second individual, BCA, a Nigerian who was arrested after being found to be living illegally in the country, were taken to the Lefkcosia District Court on Friday.
Police told the court that upon information received by phone on April, 24 it was determined that there was a person suspected of not having a residence permit in a gym operating in Küçük Kaymaklı.
Police said they went to the subject location upon the information received and during the immigration check, it was determined that the suspect had been residing in the TRNC without permit for 148 days.
Police demanded that the suspect be detained in the central prison for 20 days.
The second suspect, was detected by the teams patrolling Lefkcosia on April 24, and during the immigration check, it was determined that he had been residing in the TRNC without permit for 231 days since July 26, 2023.
Police stated that the necessary investigation was completed and requested that the suspect be detained in custody.
The judge ordered that both suspects be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days.
