Student who went for entry-exit document arrested for living illegally in north Cyprus
A student who was found to have been living illegally in the TRNC without a residence permit, was sent to prison for a period not exceeding 15 days.
The individual, AS, a Nigerian national was identified and arrested by the police on the afternoon of Monday, April, 29 when she visited the Lefkosia Police Department to obtain an immigration entry-exit document.
She was taken to the Lefkosia district court on Tuesday charged with illegal residency.
Police told the court that the individual, was arrested when she came to the Lefkosia Police Department on April 29, 2024, to obtain an immigration entry-exit document.
During immigration check, it was determined that the suspect had been living illegally in the TRNC for 517 days since September 20, 2021.
Police stated that the investigation carried out by the Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that the suspect had no residence permit.
The police requested that she be detained for before trial.
The judge stated that the crime of residence permit is a crime that carries a prison sentence of up to 6 months and is becoming more common day by day, and ordered the suspect to be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 15 days.
