Man who defrauded six people of their house rent through Facebook in north Cyprus detained for 7 days
A Turkish Cypriot house agent who defrauded six people through via social media has been detained for another 7 days as part of investigation.
HŞ was arrested last week after he was found to have defrauded six people who wanted to rent a house in Kyrenia through the "Girne Rental Houses" social media.
He was detained initially for 3 days for the purpose of investigation and was brought back to court again on Saturday.
Police told the court that the allegations against the suspect stated that between 03-08 April 2024, the suspect created a Facebook user account named "Girne Rental Houses" in order to rent apartments in Lefkosia and Kyrenia, which he took photos of and shared, although he did not have any authority to do so.
He was arrested on the grounds that he fraudulently obtained a total of 15,000 TL and 9,700 pounds in cash as rent and deposit from four separate people who contacted him to rent an apartment through Facebook.
Police stated that two more complaints came forward about the suspect during this period.
Police also stated that the suspect fraudulently obtained a total of 2,930 pounds sterling and 37,100 TL in cash as rent and deposit from two other people who contacted him to rent an apartment.
Police requested an additional period of 7 days for investigation purposes.
