Turkish Cypriot police on Tuesday warned drivers to take special care when driving along the Geçitköy stretch of the Karşıyaka – Çamlıbel main road as heavy rain causes floods across the island.

While heavy rainfall continues, mud and gravel is being swept onto the road as streams flood. Many houses and workplaces were flooded, retaining walls collapsed and 3-4 vehicles were submerged.

The Lapta – Alsancak main road was closed to traffic flow due to a large puddle in the direction of Kyrenia in the Alsancak area. In Alsancak, a road collapsed at the point called "new bridge" on the road leading to the municipality building.

Transportation is provided in a controlled manner from the Mare Monte junction.

According to the statement made by the Police Press Office, the Kyrenia - Alsancak ring road underpass in the Lefkcosia direction was closed to traffic flow due to water logging.

In Lapta, "lightning struck a transformer and a fire broke out."

Police warned drivers who use these routes to take care.

The heavy rain also affected flight to north Cyprus as three planes could not land at Ercan Airport due to adverse weather conditions.

Civil Aviation Department Director Mustafa Sofi stated that one of the 3 planes that could not land in Ercan due to adverse weather conditions returned to Adana.

Noting that flights started to return to normal, Mustafa Sofi said that one of the planes landed in Ercan.
