The president of the TRNC Animal Producers and Breeders Association has said butchers will not sell lamb meat for 550 TL."
Mustafa Naimoğulları made the statement on Friday when he noted that the signatories of the Protocol on Determining the Ceiling Price in Small Livestock called him and said that there was a miscalculation in the price adding that "Butchers say they will not sell lamb meat for 550 TL."
Naimoğulları said that butchers removed lamb meat from the aisle and said, saying they will not sell the meat for 550 TL."
Naimoğulları also said the butchers said that the President of the Butchers' Association, Halil Akbıçak, does not represent us," and that no one knew Akbıçak.
Naimoğulları underlined that the butchers told him to 'fix this' and said, "Those who signed the protocol also called us and said we made the calculation wrong."
Recall that the government of North Cyprus on Wednesday announced the implementation of price controls for lamb.
They announced that lamb in the north will now be sold for no more than 550TL per kilogram adding that any butcher attempting to sell their meat for more than the stated price will be fined.
The price control comes ahead of the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Eid al-Fitr this year is expected to begin next Tuesday evening.
