Woman in north Cyprus hires private investigator to stalk ex boy friend for breaking up with her
A man who was hired as a private investigator to track a woman's ex boyfriend in north Cyprus has been charged with “stalking” the person he was investigating.
The suspect, named only as ÖO, a Turkish national who was arrested in Kyrenia on Friday, March, 8 for following an individual on order from a woman was arrested upon a complaint from the person he was stalking.
An arrest warrant was issued for the suspect on February 23, 2024.
He was taken to the Lefkosia distinct court on Monday on charges of stalking.
Police said he the investigator had received 90,000TL (€2,575) from a 50-year-old woman who hired him on January, 20 so he could find out her ex-boyfriend’s new address for breaking up with her.
He added that the investigator had violated the man’s privacy and caused a “general disturbance” by following him and taking photographs of him.
Police said a deportation order was issued against the suspect on March, 5 for other crimes and had previously been working illegally as a detective in Turkey.
He said that for this reason, it is “highly likely” the investigator would “continue to commit the same crime” if released, and that he should be held in prison pending a trial as he has no ties to Cyprus.
The judge ordered the investigator to remain in detention for a period not exceeding one month subject to a trial.
