“We do not know the number of inactive students in the country": TRNC Minister of Education

The TRNC Minister of Education has stated that he does not know the number of inactive students in the country.

TRNC Minister of Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu made the revelation in response to a question at the General Assembly of the Parliament on Monday.

Nazım stated that the Higher Education Registration System (YÖKAS) does not have the feature of determining passive students and that the immigration office should make a single comparison on this issue.

He stated that he was not in a position to deny or confirm the figures put forward on this issue.

“There is no such system provided by YÖKAS, that is, because we do not know the passive students… If the police had such a live inspection, we would know. I also talked to my police friends about YÖKAS, but there is no figure to give at the moment. So, I cannot say that the number put forward is wrong or correct.

This figure is put forward because passive students do not necessarily mean that they will be in the country and you accept all of them without follow-up. He may have registered but never came to the country again. This needs to be compared one by one. Immigration needs to be revealed. But we will answer this as soon as possible..."
