Two people arrested in Kyrenia and Lefkosia for having huge sums of money, sticks and knives in their vehicles
Two people were arrested on the Kyrenia-Alsancak ring road and in Lefkosia on Sunday for having huge sums of money, a stick and a knife in their vehicles.
Police said an illegal knife and unauthorized tools were found during check carried out on their vehicles by a traffic police teams affiliated with the Kyrenia Police Department on the Kyrenia-Alsancak ring road.
A search was carried out on the vehicle driven by one SU, 25, a Turkish student in north Cyprus after police found its movements suspicious. A wooden stick, a knife and 196,255 US dollars was found in the vehicle.
It was determined that he was illegally handling and carrying cash. He was arrested and the money taken as evidence.
He was taken to court on Sunday.
Police told the court that the suspect was found at around 12:40 on March 16, 2024, in Kyrenia in a Honda Fit brand vehicle. The money was found in a in a black cardboard bag.
An illegal knife and an iron stick were found in the trunk of the vehicle and taken as evidence.
Police stated that an investigation has been launched regarding the issue and that it will be investigated where the suspect obtained the money in question and for what purpose he had it.
The suspect was detained for 3 days on the request of the police for more investigation to be carried out on the matter.
In another development, another driver, SG, 26 who was stopped for police checks on Mustafa Ahmet Ruso Street in Lefkosia was found to be illegally carrying a knife was arrested.
