Student arrested and detained for making noise in a Gönyeli apartment

A student who was arrested for causing disturbance in an apartment building in Gönyeli has been detained for 3 days after he was found to be living in north Cyprus without a resident permit.

The individual, AO, a Nigerian who resides in an apartment building on Martı Street in Gönyeli was arrested on Saturday, March, 9 after police received a complaint that he was making noise in the apartment.

After his arrested, immigration check carried out on him showed that he was living in the country without a resident permit. 

He was taken to the Lefkosia district court on Sunday

Police told the court that they went to the scene upon a complaint of noise coming out of an apartment building on Martı Street in Gönyeli on February 9, 2024. 

Police said the individual was detected at the entrance of the apartment, and during the check, it was determined that he had been staying in the country without a residence permit since November 29, 2023. 

The police emphasized that an investigation has been launched against the arrested suspect and that they will investigate through the Immigration Department.

Noting that the investigation was continuing, the police requested that the suspect be detained for 3 days.
