Man who was expelled from north Cyprus reenters with his brother's passport

A man who was expelled from north Cyprus and then returned to the country with his brother's passport was arrested by the police following a tip off.

The suspect, YS, 42, was caught and arrested in the Walled City of Lefkoia on Tuesday, March, 5 and then taken to the Lefkosia district court on Wednesday.

Police said YS, came to the country with his brother's passport 6 months after being expelled from the north of Cyprus.

The suspect was expelled from the country on May 18, 2023.

Police said he obtained records by fraudulent behavior, even though he knew that there was an expulsion order against him by impersonating someone else and using the person's passport.

Police said he returned to the TRNC on November 23, 2023 and gave his brother's passport to the immigration officer on duty at Ercan.

Police stated that the suspect was caught in Lefkosia on March 5, 2024, upon a tip-off.  

The police stated that the investigation had just begun and that the passport would be examined, and demanded that he be detained for 2 days in the first instance.
