A 23-year-old man who was accused of sexually abusing his friend with whom he shared the same house in Haspolat, was sent to prison for a period not exceeding 3 months.

The incident happened at around 2.30am on March 21, 2024 in Haspolat Municipality Houses.

23-year-old BE, was arrested last week for the crimes of "attempted rape", "sexual assault", "sexual harassment" and "serious battery".

The suspect was brought to the Lefkosia district court on Monday.

Police told the court that the suspect BE sexually assaulted his roommate Ç.T. after seriously beating him in the suspect's residence in Haspolat Municipal Houses.

The suspect was detected and arrested at the house where he was staying the same day following a complaint.

Police said the tracksuit bottoms and the black tank top that the suspect was wearing at the time of the incident mentioned in the complainant's statement were detected in his room and taken as evidence for DNA investigation.

The police also noted that blood and saliva swaps were taken from the suspect and the complainant for DNA analysis.

Police stated in the suspect's verbal statement that he was looking for a roommate on the internet and met Ç.T.

He stated that he asked for money for the house rent, but that he told him to leave the house because he did not want to give the money, and the complainant accepted and said "leave me then" and he gave him a ride.

Noting that the part of the investigation that could influence the suspect had been completed, the police emphasized the seriousness of the crimes committed and requested pre-trial detention.

Speaking after the police, the suspect claimed that the allegations of sexual assault were not true and said, “I took him in as a roommate. He was going to give 5 thousand TL, but he didn't. I spent 1,500 TL in gas money. He didn't want to pay rent and even though he was leaving the house, I drove him to work and school many times in a week. "I left it where he wanted".

The judge, who evaluated the testimony ordered the suspect to be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 3 months
