Illegal resident hit and injures police officer with a car during traffic check in Kyrenia

A Turkish Cypriot police officer was injured after a person who refused to stop during traffic control in Kyrenia deliberately hit the police officer while on duty.

The incident happened at around 10:00pm on Wednesday during the traffic control carried out by a team of police on Sait Arif Terzioğlu Street in Kyrenia. 

The suspect named only as DCS, who was signaled to stop by the police officer at the checkpoint speed off hitting the police officer deliberately in the process. 

This caused the police officer to be dragged and fall on the road side. The police officer who was injured at the time of the accident was taken to a hospital in Kyrenia for treatment and discharged after treatment. 

The driver of the vehicle was identified and arrested.

During immigration check, it was determined that the suspect, a foreigner was residing in the country without a residence permit.

The investigation continues.
