Woman arrested on arrival at Ercan Airport for stealing from passenger suitcase

A woman who was accused of stealing various clothing items from a suitcase at the passenger arriving section at Ercan Airport has been detained for one day on court order.

The suspect, HD., 24, a Turkish national was arrested and taken to court on Monday, Feb., 12 for allegedly stealing various clothing items in the suitcase of a passenger.

Police officer who testified in court against the suspect said the suspect was found in the arrivals section of Ercan Airport at around 6.30pm on September 13, 2023 where she stole various women's clothing items and academic student documents, the value of which has not yet been determined, in one MA's suitcase.

The incident was reported to them on October 17, 2023, and that the suspect was identified by reviewing camera footage within the scope of the investigation initiated.

Police noted that the suspect could not be arrested because she left the north of Cyprus before being identified.

The suspect was detected while entering Ercan Airport on Monday February 12, 2024 and was arrested in accordance with the pending warrant.

Police said ivestigation was continuing and that there were signs to be sought, and requested that the suspect be detained for one day.
