Turkish Cypriot man defrauds tenant of 18,000TL in rent
A man who defrauded an individual of 18,000 TL by renting a house he did not own will face trial in a north Cyprus court.
The suspect, MB, 25 was arrested and taken to the Lefkosia district court in north Cyprus on Friday for fraud.
Police said the incident happened on August 19, 2023, when the suspect, a Turkish Cypriot and a resident of Lefkosia rented out a 2+1 apartment located in Dereboyu, Lefkosia to one SNK with the intention of defrauding him.
The victim, SNK transferred the sum of 18,000 TL in to the bank account with the name AA.
Police said the suspect was arrested on Thursday, February 1, 2024, and gave a voluntary statement that qualified as a confession.
Noting that the investigation was completed, the police pointed out that there was a pending case against the suspect for threats of violence and general disturbance.
Police request that he be released on bail with an appropriate condition.
The judge ordered that the suspect be released on bail on the condition that he pay a cash guarantee of 40,000 TL and that two guarantors pay a cash guarantee of 350,000 TL each.
