The government should resign if it can not control inflation - north Cyprus Public Servants Union president
The north Cyprus Public Servants Union president has called on the government to resign if they can not stop the constant rise in the price of commodities. The government should resign if it can not use its authority to control inflation - north Cyprus Public Servants Union president
In a written statement on Monday, Güven Bengihan, President of the Turkish Cypriot Public Servants Union (KTAMS), on Monday said, "If the government is truly determined to protect the public against inflation, it should use its authority and ensure the implementation of the decisions taken."
Bengihan stated that the purchasing power of the people is constantly eroding due to high inflation, and noted that "the cost is increasing day by day due to arbitrary price practices resulting from lack of control."
Bengihan stated that "the government does not use its authority to determine the maximum profit rate on basic food and cleaning products, as in the south of Cyprus, in order to prevent the public from being crushed under expensive prices."
“The government only determined the maximum sales price of bread and was incapable of ensuring the implementation of this decision, which was taken without any dialogue with the other party. "Despite the decision of the Council of Ministers, bread producers declare that they will not comply with the decision and sell at increased prices."
Bengihan emphasized that "If it cannot control and prevent arbitrary price practices, and if no sanctions are applied for not implementing a decision taken based on the law, this situation is an indication of either the incompetence or insincerity of the government."
"If the government is really determined to protect the public against price hikes, it should use its authority and ensure the implementation of the decisions taken," said Bengihan, adding, "Otherwise, it should be resigned without further eroding the reputation of the institutions."
