Teacher sentenced to 5 years in prison for sexual abuse of his student

A Turkish Cypriot teacher who sexually abused a child he gave private lessons to in 2021, has been sentenced to 5 years and 6 months in prison.

The case against Mustafa Kadı, who was tried for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old boy whom he gave private lessons in the Kyrenia region, was decided on Friday.

The defendant, who was tried for "sexual abuse and sexual assault against a 16-year-old minor" at the Kyrenia High Criminal Court, was sentenced to 5 years and 9 months in prison.

At the decision session, the judge stated that the incident occurred in the Kyrenia region between September 21 and November 19, 2021.

The judge said the defendant abused the child whom he gave private lessons to.

Emphasizing that crimes of a sexual nature are committed, the judge noted that exemplary punishments should be given to those who commit such crimes.

The judge stated that a child who is sexually assaulted will experience lifelong trauma and that those who commit such crimes will not be treated with tolerance.

He stated that the defendant was an educator and that he committed these crimes during his duty, and that they considered this issue as an aggravating factor. 

In light of all the facts, they sentenced the defendant to 5 years and 6 months in prison.
