Students without residence permits in north Cyprus steals and buy stolen phone
Two students who were accused of stealing and buying two stolen phones in Lefkosia were found to be residing in north Cyprus without a resident permit.
The two accused, EI and UCA, both Nigerians at around 10.10am on Saturday February 3, 2024, stole 2 mobile phones worth 15,000 TL which was left on the table by one AY, in a shop named Yıldırım Pide, operating in Küçük Kaymaklı.
They were arrested and taken to the Lefkosia District court on Sunday on charges of theft.Police told the court that the suspect, EI, stole 2 mobile phones worth 15,000 TL, left on the table by AY.
The incident was reported to the police in a short time and the suspect was identified from camera footage.
Police said EI was was detected and arrested while trying to sell the stolen phones to UCA in Lefkosia City Center area shortly after stealing it. UCA was also arrested.
Police checked the immigration entry and exit records of both suspects and determined that EI has been living illegally in north Cyprus without a resident permit for 417 days since December 13, 2022, and UCA, for 1,220 days since October 1, 2020.
The police stated that the investigation has just begun and that an investigation will be conducted into where and how the suspects stayed during their unauthorized residence in TRNC and whether they committed any crime in the country during this period.
Noting that there were statements to be taken, the police requested that the suspects be detained for 3 days.
You had no resident permit, you still went to steal in a place where there are security cameras. How does someone buy an item from another person with out asking for receipt and phone identification?
