North Cyprus university reports student to police for living in north Cyprus without a resident permit
A student was arrested by north Cyprus police for living in north Cyprus illegally without a resident permit after his university reported him to the police.
The individual, CHN, a Nigerian was arrested at around 1.30pm on Wednesday Feb., 21 according to information received after which it was determined that the he was living illegally in the country.
He was taken to the Lefkosia judicial court on Thursday.
Police said the individual was arrested according to information received from Near East University, after it was learned that the suspect remained illegal in the country.
During immigration check, it was determined that the suspect had stayed in the TRNC without a residence permit for 791 days since December 22, 2021.
The judge who stated that the crime of residence permit is a crime that carries a prison sentence of up to 6 months and is becoming more common day by day, ordered the suspect to be sent to prison for a period not more than 20 days.
