North Cyprus speaker of Parliament promises to clamp down on illegal taxi operation in north Cyprus

The TRNC Parliament Speaker Zorlu Töre, has said the government of the TRNC will take an initiative against foreigners who carry out illegal taxi activities in the country.

Tore at a meeting where he received the Famagusta Taxi Drivers Association President Muhammed Biberoğlu and his accompanying delegation on Thursday last week, stated that the government was aware of the unregistered taxi driving throughout the country and said that the necessary initiatives would be taken.

The Famagusta Taxi Drivers Association officials were in his office to convey their problems to the speaker.

Speaking at the reception, Töre noted that unregistered taxi driving throughout the country causes loss of income for both tradesmen and the state adding that the government has information about unregistered taxi driving and that the issue should be handled within the legal framework.

Tore explained that complaints have increased with the increase in the foreign population and pointed out that citizens of third world countries also operate illegal taxis and said that he will raise the issue with the government and take the necessary steps.

Famagusta Taxi Drivers Association President Muhammed Biberoğlu asked for support from Töre in the fight against unregistered taxi drivers and presented a file containing his demands.

***The statement by the speaker referring to other countries as third word countries when the TRNC is neither a first or second world country is derogatory.
