Man who was expelled from north Cyprus assaults two women in Gonyeli

A man who was previously sentenced to prison for violence and then had an expulsion decision canceled by the government has been accused of assaulting two women in Gönyeli.

The suspect, DK, a Turkish national at around 11.30pm on February 14, 2024 in an apartment in Gönyeli asaulted two women.
He was arrested and taken to court on Friday.
Police said he was previously sentenced to prison for violence and then had a decision to be expelled from the country stopped by the TRNC Council of Ministers.
Police said the suspect seriously battered his girlfriend E.Ç., 20 following an argument due to the serious disagreement in their relationship.

He then assaulted his girlfriend's friend Y.Ö., 20 who tried to intervened in the incident, and that the suspect also damaged the bedroom door by punching and kicking it.  

Police noted that the complaint was made on February 15, 2024, and the suspect was detected and arrested in Gönyeli on the same day.

During the immigration check, it was determined that the suspect was previously sentenced to prison for violence, and an expulsion decision was issued against him after his sentence was completed, but this decision was stopped by the Council of Ministers.

After the expulsion decision was stopped, the suspect lived illegally in the north of Cyprus from January 27, 2023 to February 15, 2024.

Police said investigation was completed and demanded that the suspect be tried while in detention.

The court ordered the suspect to be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 3 months.
