Man machetes and injured two people in Lefkosia
A man who injured two people with a machete in Lefkosia on Wednesday has been detained by the police.
The individual, Mehmet Kılıç, 47 reportedly injured one Murat Gören in the head and İbrahim Casun in the teeth and lips with a machete.
He was arrested after the incident and taken to court on charges of attempted murder, causing grave damage, injury, deliberate damage, carrying an intrusive tool and serious assault.
Police told the court that the incident happened at around 1.30pm on Wednesday, Feb. 7 on Istanbul Street, a public place in the Lefkosia city center when the suspect hit 31-year-old Murat Gören on the back of his head with a machete, which he had not yet been identified, inflicting a 7-centimeter cut on him.
Police said also threw the machete into the face of 24-year-old İbrahim Casun, causing his tooth to break and creating a 4-cm cut on his lower right lip.
The suspect also threw Murat Gören's mobile phone to the ground, causing it to break.
He was identified in Demirhan on the same date and arrested in accordance with the pending warrant, and that nothing illegal was found during the searches made in his hotel room in Surlariçi, where he resided.
Police said the suspect should be examined by a doctor at Barış Mental and Neurological Diseases Hospital to determine whether he is criminally responsible for the crimes he committed.
The police noted that the investigation had just begun and that there were traces and camera footage that needed to be watched, and that there were statements to be taken, and requested that the suspect be detained for one day in the first place.
