Man caught with 60 grams of "methamphetamine" at Ercan Airport in north Cyprus after police tip off

A man who was caught with "Methamphetamine" type drug at Ercan Airport, was arrested and taken to court.

The suspect, MT, who entered north Cyprus via Ercan Airport at around at around 1.52pm on Sunday was caught with 60 grams of "Methamphetamine" type drug.

He was arrested and taken to court.

Police told the court that they received information that he would have drugs in his possession while he was coming to the north of Cyprus, and stated that they started waiting at the airport on Sunday following the tip-off.

Upon his arrival in north Cyprus, he was detained and searched.

Police said during the search, they seized 40 grams of Methamphetamine wrapped in nylon in the suspect's underwear, 15 grams of Methamphetamine wrapped in a napkin, 2 grams of Methamphetamine in his wallet and 8 grams of Methamphetamine in a small bottle in his bag.

The suspect admitted his crime and said that he obtained the drugs from Turkey.

Police said the seized substances will be sent for analysis and statements related to the crime will be taken.

Noting that the investigation was continuing, the police officer requested that the suspect be detained for 3 days initially.
